Conversations that Mind and Matter

discussion, debate, conversation, skillful conversation, dialogue, metalogue and conversations that mind and matter

Discussion
There’s almost always something we’d like to discuss with other people. Something we haven’t quite figured out yet, and/or something we have figured out and would like to tell others.

Debate
Avoid. Anneal. Transform. If discussions is essentially a residue needing to be resolved, a debate is a discussion where the individual agenda becomes slightly too polarized through desire, fear, anger and/or projection. Once we’ve managed to sit on our typing fingers for a while and our breathing is back to normal, we proceed to

Conversation
A conversation is basically a discussion with some rhythm and flow added to it.

Skillful Conversation
When there’s sufficient listening in addition to the flow, the participants warm up to the complex responsive processes, usually making for both a longer and a more high-quality sharing of stories, perspectives and insights in the comment thread.

Dialogue
Every time there’s a holding of space larger than the individual agendas in the conversation, dialogue emerges. This can at times feel weird, as if the comment thread takes on a life of its own. No worries, it’s only you as participants becoming authentic enough so as to making for a listening forth the best in between yourselves.

Metalogue
A dialogue where there’s a beginning (re)weaving between Me and We. This always feels really weird — good weird. If the IQ and the EQ of the participants increase by ten points or more, then Metalogue already. From a process perspective, the individual agendas of the participants are here being transformed into collective intelligence.

Conversations that Mind and Matter
There’s a level beyond metalogue as well. This level requires participants fully in charge of their own synthesis, selfhood and (becoming of) service, combined with requisite vulnerability. It’s so beyond weird it feels like second nature. Simplicity beyond complexity is the short description how it feels.

Note: these seven are non-linearly nested inside and around all our complex responsive processes, including instant conversations only consisting in two seconds of eye contact. Conversations that Mind and Matter is optimal for thinking things through, while Discussion is optimal for getting things done. All seven are old, field-tested, working sets of patterns.

If we help each other perform all seven — then we are enacting digital place.
