Cards for Insight: MKR, part 2

Cards for Insight: Helping you reflect, reframe and play

In a network, questions, cards, insights and preferable outcomes.

2038: The OmniDeck

- Grandpa, what did you do in 2015 that started all this?

- Sean, I was people-collecting, gathering a whole bunch of people inside something called Cards for Insight Card Sessions, Conversation Communities, Sagarmatha Cafés, Feynman Airstreams and Knowledge Expeditions.

- But, grandpa, you can’t collect other people?

- That’s true Sean, you can’t. What we did was, we created stories that were large enough for the others to travel and explore inside.

- You mean like the OmniDeck?

(proudly gesturing the OmniDeck into 4D existence with a small finger gesture)

- Yes, exactly like the OmniDeck!

Boundary Object: Adventures of Ideas

“In the study of ideas, it is necessary to remember that insistence on hard-headed clarity issues from sentimental feeling, as if it were a mist, cloaking the perplexities of fact.
Insistence on clarity at all costs is based on sheer superstition as to the mode in which human intelligence functions.
Our reasoning grasps at straws for premises and float on gossamer for deductions.”
— Alfred North Whitehead, Adventures of Ideas, From force to persuasion

Related:

“In the end nothing is effective except massively coordinated inheritance. Sporadic spontaneity is composed of flashes mutually thwarting each other. Ideas have to be sustained, disentangled, diffused, and coordinated with the background. Finally they pass into exemplification in action.
The distinguishing mark of modern civilization is the number of institutions whose origin can be traced to the initial entertainment of some idea.”
— Alfred North Whitehead, Adventures of Ideas, Aspects of freedom
