Use cards to explore new perspectives and
gain insight around a chosen question.

Cards: Questions, play, insights , patterns of play and shared understanding

… formulate and gather around
generative center questions …

Card*: Structured Thought
Mastering structured thought
for generative, substantial and
constructive conversations.

Generative review: meaningful, thoughtful,
and productive digital discourse

… pick cards, take thought and add
select thoughts to and between the cards …

Card*: Five Dimensions
Information mapping conducive to
knowledge mapping and flow.

Generative review: Decision quality.

… formulate and gather around generative center questions; pick cards and add your thoughts to and between them; engage in card-play conversations around questions, with human and AI-assisted card annotations addressing worthwhile dilemmas; cultivate shared understanding as generative closure; evaluate thoughts, insights, moves, paths and preferable outcomes against envisioned end game scenarios; collaborate on narratives and co-create knowledge artifacts building on the cards, card-play conversations and annotations …

This is the format, questions and cards with

… patterns of play …

before, after, between and around the cards, forming
stepping stones, roped paths and generative sequences.

Card-Play: Information turned Knowledge

… gather around a worthwhile dilemma and
formulate generative center questions …

Card: Understanding
What if understanding is our ability
to hold space for the possibility of
knowledge, as it emerges, unfolds,
directs and discloses its relevance to
unexplored aspects of things known?

… engage in card-play and card-play
conversations by adding thoughts
to, around and between the cards …

Card: Heuristics
Adaptive tools that ignore information
to make fast and frugal decisions that
are accurate and robust under
conditions of uncertainty.

… use the cards to explore new perspectives
and gain insight around chosen questions, with
cards and card-play forming stepping stones for
lines of inquiry and flourishes between worthwhile
dilemmas and preferable outcomes, with shared
understanding as generative closure …

Card: Information Heuristics
Mental shortcuts for processing
information quickly, shaping
judgments and decisions.

… cultivate shared understanding
as generative closure …

Information turned knowledge and knowledge turned understanding

Information Heuristics
These are heuristics specifically used to process information, categorize it, and connect it to existing knowledge. Examples include relying on familiar sources, prioritizing recent information, or using established frameworks.

Prehension and Transformation
As we encounter new information through these information heuristics, the prehension deepens. We don’t just grasp the information but start to grasp its connections, implications, and potential applications. This iterative process transforms information into knowledge and ultimately fuels understanding.

Information > Knowledge > Understanding
While heuristics can be seen as initial, potentially biased prehensions, they are crucial for initiating the knowledge-building process. Through continual refinement and deeper prehensions (interactions), we move from information to knowledge and ultimately to a richer understanding.

The squiggly line in the middle is a flourish.

Use the cards to explore new perspectives and gain insight around chosen questions, with cards and card-play forming stepping stones for lines of inquiry and flourishes between worthwhile dilemmas and preferable outcomes, with shared understanding as generative closure.

Adjacent Possible Playground: Facilitation
In addition to the source deck, 500 cards providing 120k two-card and
21M three-card combinations, there’s “booster pack” card decks with around 15 to 20 cards, adding particular and/or bespoke functions.

Card-Play Engagement Heuristics
Twenty-five heuristics to help new card-play participants engage effectively, enhance their learning, and maximize their return on engagement within the Card-Play Conversation framework.

evolving in dialogue with around two thousand others.

Card*: Preferable Outcomes
The preferable outcomes revolve around
generative exploration, insight generation
and practical applicability —behavior and
agency evolving with conversationally
intelligent and collaborative dynamics,
creating knowledge artifacts for future
reference and knowledge evolution.
